Announcing: The Jeremy Hill Memorial Grant

0

JeremyLast month, our volunteer SAMFund reviewers read and discussed over 630 applications from young adult survivors of cancer for the 2013-2014 grant cycle. They are now hard at work evaluating submissions from our Part II applicants, a job that is simultaneously challenging and rewarding. It is only through the dedication of volunteers, donors, board members, and supporters that we have been able to award $900,000 in financial assistance to YAs since 2005. We are eternally grateful and humbled by the generosity of those who enable The SAMFund to consistently increase the number of YAs we can assist each year.

This year, we are proud to be establishing the first permanent named grant in memory of one of our longtime supporters and friends, Jeremy Hill. A beloved SAMFund Board member who passed away in 2012 at the age of 43 after a prolonged battle with melanoma, Jeremy was a person of quiet but great generosity.

Though Jeremy’s tenure on the Board of Trustees began in 2010, he had been steadily involved with The SAMFund as a donor and volunteer since 2007. He was also a member of the New York University Langone Medical Center’s NYUCI Advisory Board, extending his dedication to giving back as much as he could wherever possible.

The SAMFund is proud to honor Jeremy by creating a perpetual grant in his name. We will award a grant annually to two young adult survivors trying to regain their financial footing after cancer treatment. Like Jeremy, both recipients will demonstrate a commitment to giving back to the community. As he worked and lived in New York, at least one of the grants each year will be given to a young adult survivor in that area.
